Protocol Steps
Animal placement on elevated plus maze
Mice were placed individually at the end of an open arm with their back to the central platform
Note: Individual placement ensures consistent starting position

“Mice were placed individually at the end of an open arm with their back to the central platform.”
Measurement of transfer latency on Day 1
The time for mice to cross a line halfway along one of the closed arms was measured. Mice had to have their body and each paw on the other side of the line.
Note: If a mouse had not crossed the line after 120 seconds, it was placed beyond it

“The time for mice to cross a line halfway along one of the closed arms was measured (transfer latency) on day 1 and day 2. Mice had to have their body and each paw on the other side of the line. If a mouse had not crossed the line after 120 s, it was placed beyond it.”
Post-crossing exploration period on Day 1
After crossing the line, mice had 30 seconds for exploring the apparatus
Note: Allows mice to explore the closed arm area

“After crossing the line, mice had 30 s for exploring the apparatus.”
Measurement of transfer latency on Day 2
The same procedure was repeated on day 2, measuring transfer latency time to cross the line halfway along one of the closed arms
Note: Day 2 measurement allows assessment of learning from Day 1
